It's not just us humans who are troubled by the cold, wet weather. The body's immune system of our dogs is also challenged, especially in the winter months. Walks can become quite icy and at home the warm, dry heating air irritates the mucous membranes. Especially the change from indoors to outdoors and back again, favors colds and discomfort in our four-legged friends, as well as in us two-legged friends. But with the healing power of nature, we can not only prevent colds, but also treat mild symptoms like diarrhoea, vomiting, a cough or a small cold of our ailing pelt-noses quite simply at home. And also for other aches and pains, the good old home remedies that our grandmothers swore by have proven their worth. With our "Top three" of the healing and absolutely natural dog dishes, you can support the recovery process or the immune system of your fur noses in a delicious way. So nothing stands in the way of long walks and wild snowball fights.

Top 3 home remedies to treat vomiting, diarrhoea, coughs, colds and more in dogs

1. Williams Moro`sche carrot soup - Carrot soup for dogs with diarrhoea and vomiting

In addition to a thick cold, the winter cold can cause further discomfort. Dogs who love to eat snow usually can't enjoy the winter wonderland for long. The icy treat can quickly lead to mild snow gastritis. Stomach pain and diarrhea are the consequences. But even here, nature does not let us down. Because Williams carrot soup has proven to be one of the best home remedies ever for diarrhea of any kind - for humans and dogs alike. Of course, in case of doubt, the veterinarian should always be consulted, but also therapy-accompanying, for example, with an intestinal infection or germs such as Giardia, the uncomplicated soup works wonders. And besides it is still inexpensive and super-easy to manufacture from ingredients, which are to be found anyway usually in each household. As you might expect, it's made from standard carrots. The overlong cooking time creates special sugar molecules that block the docking sites of the germs in the intestines. The intestinal parasites lose their hold on the intestinal wall and are excreted with the food. The intestine cleans itself without any chemicals. We show you how you can easily cook the stomach miracle soup a la William at home:

Ingredients:

  • ca. 500 gr. organic carrots
  • 1 - 1,5 Liters of water
  • 1 lightly heaped teaspoon table salt

Preparation:

Wash the carrots and cut into cubes. We recommend using organic carrots, as they do not need to be peeled and many important nutrients are hidden in the carrot skin. Then put the chopped carrots in a saucepan, cover with about 1 liter of water and bring to a boil. Now simmer the water-carrot mixture for exactly 1 ½ hours on low with the lid closed. The cooking time is what matters! In between, check the water level and refill to 1 liter of water if necessary. After the long cooking time, pass the carrot water through a sieve and collect the liquid. Now the cooked carrots must be pureed. The finer the better. Add the pureed pulp back to the collected water, sprinkle in the salt and mix everything together well.Let the carrot soup cool until lukewarm or cold.

Feeding:

The soup can be fed either in the short term as a substitute for the dog's meals in small portions 3-5 times a day, if acute diarrhea is present. As an adjunct to therapy, it is also advisable to feed the soup in small portions about 30 minutes before the actual meal. The recipe can be adapted according to the needs and size of the dog. The carrot soup can also be wonderfully frozen.

2. Williams Bone Broth - Home remedies when dogs have colds and mild coughs

An absolute classic! Even from childhood, everyone probably knows the healing and warming effect of a really tasty bone broth. This classic home remedy also has only good things to offer our four-legged friends. In addition, it can be used in many ways: to replenish after a cold, for nutrient and mineral deficiencies caused by diarrhea, to stimulate the appetite or to increase the dog's water intake, e.g. in the case of cystitis. Today we show you our variant of the well-tried and healing bone broth. Crucial for its effectiveness is, similar to Williams carrot soup, the long cooking time.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Marrow Bone
  • 4-5 Carrots
  • 4-5 Parsnips
  • ½ Fennel
  • 200 gr. peas
  • 2 tablespoons of naturally cloudy apple vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1,5 - 2 Liters of water

Preparation:

Place the bones in a large pot and cover with enough cold water (1.5 - 2 liters). Add apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (this acid helps to extract the minerals from the bones). Now bring the whole thing to a boil and simmer for 24 hours at best with the lid closed and at a low temperature - the longer the better! Wash the vegetables (if organic, the vegetables do not need to be peeled and provide even more nutrients), peel if necessary and chop very small. Add the ingredients to the crock pot about 2 hours before the end of the cooking time. Finally, only the bones need to be fished out of the soup, as they should never be fed cooked due to the risk of splintering. The broth must now cool properly and at best takes on a gelatinous consistency.

Feeding:

Depending on your needs, the broth can be fed to your dog several times a day, cold or lukewarm, in small portions. It can be kept in the refrigerator for only 2-3 days, but can be wonderfully frozen.

3. Williams Miracle Mash according to Aldington - Healthy mash according to the dog expert Aldington

The recipe idea goes back to the dog expert and book author Eric H.W. Aldington and is primarily used to properly boost weakened, ailing dogs and make their immune system weatherproof. It is also suitable for giving old or weak dogs an extra portion of energy. The key with Aldington's miracle porridge is to achieve the highest possible nutrient density, which when fed as a porridge acts like a nutrient and vital substance shot. Ideally, the Aldington porridge should be fed before the onset of winter, during the change of coat, after a vaccination or during recovery after an illness in a cure. Especially dogs that get commercial dry food sometimes need that certain something to strengthen their defenses. And this lies in the miracle porridge after Aldington. The ingredients are demanding, but the results are impressive. And here's how you can cook up this power-packed dish:

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon flower pollen *
  • 1 tsp Eggshell flour *
  • 1 tsp Spirulina *
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Cream
  • 1 tsp Linseed oil
  • 1 tsp brewer's yeast *
  • 1 Tl. Apfel-Essig

* the ingredients are available in health food stores or on the Internet.

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients together and let stand for about 10 minutes until the flower pollen is completely dissolved.

Feeding:

Give the nutrient-rich porridge daily as a cure for about 2-3 weeks or feed 1 time a week as year-round support. The Aldington miracle porridge is actually very well received by the four-legged friends. If not, you can mix it wonderfully under the everyday food. The porridge should not be frozen and should always be prepared fresh.

Many dogs suffer from itchy and sore paws, especially in winter. Snow and cold, but above all corrosive road salt, damage the dog's soft paws. That's why paw care is especially important for your four-legged friend in winter. We tell you what you can do in our article Paw care in winter.

In case of persistent or severe symptoms of any kind, of course, should always consult a veterinarian. The home remedies in no way replace treatment and medication in the event of a serious illness. However, after consultation with the vet, in the case of mild complaints or accompanying therapy, these healing dishes are true pick-me-ups for our dearest and unfortunately sometimes ailing four-legged friends.

By the way: If you want to give your dog a little and absolutely healthy pleasure in between - we now have our own dog snacks! The William Walker Treats are 100% produced in Germany and have only natural and incidentally sustainable ingredients.
